Rye and Barley Management Study

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The interest of distilleries to source locally-grown grains has increased interest in growing barley and cereal rye. Barley has typically been raised for feed in Kentucky, not for malting. Cereal rye is typically grown in the northern Great Plains. Either that region results in more consistent test weights, or the Northern Plains historically could not raise corn and soybeans, making rye a viable alternative.
