Sequencing of Newt Genome

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Dr. Voss of the University of Kentucky will collaborate with the University Dayton to sequence part of the newt genome and of chromosome DNA. The newt genome has not been sequenced yet mainly due to the large size of it and difficulties with assembly. We will try to shotgun sequence newt DNA and attempt to assemble the sequence. This will provide critical information of how possible it will be to sequence and assemble the whole genome in the future. At the same time Dr. Voss will try to sequence an isolated newt chromosome to receive more detail about the organization of the genome.
