Description
The Department for Community Based Services Adult Protective Services Branch, in collaboration with
the University of Kentucky College of Social Work (CoSW), will deploy the APS Self-Neglect Adaptive
Response Initiative (ARI). ARI is an integrative, transdisciplinary pilot project aimed at adroitly
responding to self-neglect referrals. The overarching purpose of ARI is to improve the overall well-being
for those referred for possible self-neglect. The project focuses on the need to respond to self-neglect
referrals more creatively. Specifically, research suggests the need for wholistic, adaptive responses that
meet targeted needs. Such a response requires an initial assessment strategy that is rooted in
meaningful client engagement, communicative partnerships and shared decision-making, and service
referral efficiency.
