Shale Gas production and Oil Shale Potential in Kentucky, NCRDS Program

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The Kentucky Geological Survey will be responsible for sampling shales along the outcrop margin in Kentucky, sampling suitable cores within the Kentucky Geological Survey core warehouse (where available and practical), and gathering any pertinent geochemical data on the Devonian shale in Kentucky. Where available opportunities to collect fresh cuttings or sample fresh cores in eastern Kentucky are presented, these will also be sampled. The total number of sampled locations will not exceed 25. All sample locations will be recorded in accordance with USGS formats and samples will be collected using standard collecting procedures. USGS is responsible for analyses of samples submitted. Analyses will be shared with KGS, and KGS will aid in interpretation of results as needed.
