Description
The Fardo lab became informally known as the Statistical ‘Omics Research Center (S’ORCe) when he hired Dr. Katsumata as a research assistant professor in January 2018—a significant first step toward the ultimate goal of creating a hub of statistical ‘omics research at UK. The primary rationale for the existence of the S’ORCe is to help meet the obvious ‘omics research analytics needs across UK. The purpose of the proposed NRPA-S’ORCe is to fill critical ‘omics research needs at UK. Through this NRPA Center funding program, the efforts of the current S’ORCe can be broadened to have greater impact by expanding membership and expertise. This will increase the type and frequency of important transdisciplinary interactions between already successful investigators as well as promising junior researchers targeted for mentorship opportunities in the discipline. The related goals of the NRPA-S’ORCe are to create and maintain long-term collaborations, provide tailored analytic support through didactic and experiential training, and to substantively advance ADRD research. The added value from the NRPA-S’ORCe is evident by the collaborative productivity shown by current and former S’ORCe members as well as the shear demand for quantitative, analytical skills in the ‘omics and ADRD space. The synergies through dedicated effort and years of experience bringing folks from multiple disciplines together will be the primary fruit of the Center.
