Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This study will produce a comparison of the performance of the available types of materials, devices, and materials which could provide roadway delineation during wet, nighttime conditions. The results can be used to determine the most cost-effective method of providing effective results on various types of highways. The current materials and procedures used in Kentucky to provide lane delineation will be summarized. A review will be made to determine available alternatives and experience in other states. Evaluation will continue for experimental materials and methods recently installed in Kentucky to provide wet-nighttime delineation. These include recessed markers, wet-reflective paint and tape, and rumble stripes. The effect of snowplow operations on the durability of the various materials will be evaluated.
