SPR 15-499: Pavement Load Rating

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The Transportation Cabinet is charged with identifying the truck class or load carrying capacity of roadways across the state, historically this designation has been determined based on the load rating of bridge structures. This was then applied along the entire length of a route. There are other factors which impact the ability of a roadway to handle specific types and weights of trucks; these include pavement structural thickness, roadway geometry and overhead clearances. This study will evaluate the data which may be available to develop a method utilizing overall roadway information, including bridge posting information to develop the appropriate roadway load rating.
