Description
The objective of this project is to deploy and evaluate an adaptive traffic signal system that utilizes state-of-the-art traffic control algorithms and detection.
Traffic signal timing plans are often developed based on single day peak hour estimations of demand and do not reflect the variable time, day, seasonal or weather variations experienced in travel demand. As such timing plans are frequently not ideal for the given conditions. Adaptive signal control systems use additional vehicle detection methods to estimate actual real time demand and modify signal timing parameters to best meet that demand. A wide range of performance improvements have been reported for these systems.
