Description
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet uses crash data routinely for safety prioritization, highway improvements and maintenance, and the identification of corridors in need of education and enforcement activities. The ability to easily integrate up-to-date crash data into existing analysis can allow the Cabinet to more readily make informed safety decisions. Currently this is a multi-step process requiring data from several data sources.
The objective of this research is to create an easy way for KYTC employees to integrate crash data into existing safety-related selection criteria and decision-making.
This research will produce modularized plugins for Excel and ArcMap to allow users to obtain crash counts, rates and factors for any state-maintained roadway section and for a variety of predefined criteria (roadway departure, nighttime crashes, etc.). In addition, this research will provide the users with state-of-the-art methodologies that will provide expected crashes can be used to identify sites with promise.
