SPR 2013 Prime KTC: Signal Systems Performance Measures

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Typically very limited traffic volume and travel time studies are used to develop base signal timing plans and for design improvements. Additionally, there is a limited amount of data for evaluation of compliance with congestion and pollution reduction mandates. Currently the inadequate studies and data do not reflect daily, seasonal, weather, event and incident variation. There is a significant need to effectively employ a cost effective and reliable system that will provide this data. This project will develop and/or identify measures of effectiveness for roadway performance and efficient means of collecting pertinent data. A pilot system for collecting traffic operations performance measurements will be deployed and evaluated. This project will 1) install the system at several field locations as a proof-of-concept of the system and 2) collect information to assess the effectiveness of the system to produce effective and meaningful performance measures.
