SPR 23-634: Best Practices for Lidar Data Collection and Processing

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

PROBLEM STATEMENT The recent installation of Lidar sensors on roadway inventory vans lets KYTC collect vast amounts of data along Kentucky’s highway systems. Lidar has many transportation-related applications, however, not all Lidar data are created equally. Relative and geospatial accuracies, data densities, collection procedures, and other factors can limit the utility of post-processed Lidar deliverables. KYTC requires assistance with all facets of acquiring and post-processing Lidar data. OBJECTIVES • Develop best practices for data collection, post-processing, and data extraction • Assist Highway Safety and Maintenance staff who will work with the new Lidar sensors on roadway inventory vans.
