SPR 85-107: Long-Term Monitoring

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Objective: To monitor the condition of selected highway infrastructure projects which contain experimental/test features, using onsite assessment techniques and remote digital data acquisition as requested by the Kentucky Department of Highways. Assessment may involve both destructive and non-destructive testing, field evaluation and review. Background: The performance of many new techniques utilized on a variety of highway projects may not be realized during installation or even during the near-term after construction. Provisions are generally made for short-term evaluations of experimental/test features as a part of the project. However, provisions are not usually made for longer term evaluations. Evaluations, as conducted by this research project initiative, provide significant long-term performance information at relatively low cost. This project currently consists of 41 subtasks across a wide range of materials and construction techniques, and only a portion of these subtasks are evaluated in any given year. Projects within Long-Term Monitoring generally deal with the following categories: Pavement „X Asphalt „X Concrete „X Culverts and Pipes „X Safety Treatments Bridge „X Structures „X Cables „X Coatings „X Decks
