Description
Since 2014, the BCC has utilized Project B HIV Prevention funds, and leveraged Ryan White
Part B, C, and D, to successfully develop and sustain a Prevention for Positives program to:
identify persons with HIV infection and uninfected persons at risk for HIV infection; reduce
transmission from persons living with HIV; provide comprehensive HIV-related prevention
services for PLWH; and provide intensive activities to support sustained viral suppression. The
BCC Prevention for Positives program includes a project coordinator and two full-time health
educators (referred to as prevention program interventionists ) to provide the following services:
a) HIV and health education;
b) HIV risk reduction counseling (e.g. correct and consistent condom use, access to clean
syringes);
c) access to condoms for clients and community partners; c) strategy development to
assist patients in disclosing their HIV status to partners;
d) STD screening and access to treatment;
e) HIV testing on-site to at risk persons/partners of the HIV patient population receiving
care;
f) linkage to care activities for the newly diagnosed; and
g) medication adherence counseling.
The BCC proposes to continue and strengthen the existing Prevention for Positives program to
ensure that there is increased participation in HIV partner services among persons with
diagnosed HIV infection, increased linkage to and retention in HIV medical care among PLWH,
and increase availability of condoms among persons living with or at risk for HIV infection.
