Supplement: Implementation of an Enterprise Clinical Trial Management Software for University of Kentucky (Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science)

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The University of Kentucky (UK) Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) draws from the university’s position as the flagship, land grant institution of higher education in the Commonwealth and home to all six biomedical colleges (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Sciences) and 10 other colleges, including Engineering, Arts & Sciences, Agriculture, Education and Business. UK is located in Lexington on the periphery of the 54-county Appalachian Region of Eastern Kentucky. The region has some of the highest rates of health disparities in the country, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and disease from drug addiction. Unlike many universities that have administratively separated from their hospitals, UK owns and operates the health care system. UK HealthCare serves the Appalachian Region as a robust, research intensive academic enterprise with a combined 1,100 bed capacity, over 40,000 discharges per year, a case-mix (disease) index consistently over 2.0, and the provision of many advanced services, including over 200 transplants per year. Thus, UK and UK HealthCare occupy a highly important position in the community and provides a unique opportunity to lead clinical trial development in this region with such significant health care needs.
