Grants and Contracts Details
Description
This is an Administrative Supplement request in response to PA-18-591 for “Administrative
Supplements to Existing NIH Grants and Cooperative Agreements.” The requested funds are for two
pieces of equipment that will be utilized by P01NS097197 and R01NS07899 to complete nonoverlapping
experiments that were proposed in these applications. The pieces of equipment are 1) a
capillary electrophoresis system to define the physiochemical properties of Lafora bodies and
glycogen, and 2) a microwave fixation system to quickly deactivate brain enzymes and freeze
glycogen and metabolites for analysis. The request is being made due to unforeseen costs and
delays concerning capillary electrophoresis analysis of glycogen, and evolving methodologies that
were not available at the time of submission regarding necessary brain fixation for metabolite
analysis. The research objectives of this supplement are within the original scope of the peer
reviewed proposal and approved project. If supported, these funds will increase the overall impact of
the originally approved aims.
