Supplement: Mitochondrial Targeted Therapeutics for Treatment of Spinal Cord Injury

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The focus of this supplement is to add high-resolution T2-weighted MRI image analysis and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) track tracing as additional endpoints to our existing experimental paradigms for Specific Aims 3 (R01NS069633). No additional animals or experiments will be needed as this supplement will allow us to image currently approved experimental animals. These data will allow us, for the first time, to correlate lesion evolution and loss of white matter tracts with behavioral outcome (BBB and kinematics in SCI) in individual animals beginning 24-48 hours post-injury and proceeding out to 42 days post-injury. Specifically, we will be scanning 24 animals at seven different times points: pre-injury, 24-48 hours, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 42 days post-injury). Additionally, two experts in MRI imaging will be added at 5% effort each (0.6 months) to assist in the development and optimization of the DTI (David Powell, PhD) and T2 (Anders Andersen, PhD) imaging sequences and analysis techniques.
