Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Performance of soybean varieties is affected by many factors during the growing season, including location, agronomic management, pest and weed control, soil type and time of planting. In addition, soybean varieties are usually adapted for geographic area about 100 miles wide from north to south. As a consequence, a variety that performs well in northern Kentucky may not be recommended for southern areas. For these reasons, the soybean variety performance trials will be planted in 6 locations that cover the major soybean production areas of Kentucky: Caldwell Co., Calloway Co., Daviess Co., Fayette Co., Hardin Co, and Simpson Co. All varieties will be planted at all 6 locations. The intern will assist with planting at all locations, stand counts, weed and pest controls during the growing season, data collection (lodging, maturity dates for the early varieties), and preparation of harvest and sampling collection for seed composition.
