Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Patterns of Care/Quality of Care Diagnosis

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This pattern of care study is undertaken to examine and characterize the cancer treatment practice patterns in different locales of the United States. The cancers to be investigated are metastatic melanoma, mesothelioma, oligodendrogliomas/astrocytomas, neuroblastoma and ovarian cancer. A random sample of each cancer site will be selected from the KCR database based on sex, age, and race sampling criteria specified in the pattern of care study protocol. Data collection will require travel to healthcare facilities for review of the medical records for each patient followed by verification of all therapies with the treating physicians. Additional data items will be collected as specified with each cancer site. Collected data will be entered into an electronic database using study software and subsequently uploaded to NCI for compilation with data from other participating states for analysis.
