Grants and Contracts Details
Description
This state funded grant is to train Teachers of the Visually Impaired, due to a critical shortage of qualified teachers in this area. In year two of the grant, monies will go towards salaries for a clinical assistant professor and clinical instructor which will teach courses, supervise students, and provide technical assistance and outreach to districts across the state. In addition, monies will also go towards program materials, equipment, travel, and programming for students.
Courses are set to being in fall of 2013 for the first cohort of students, which is expected to be about 15 students, but no more than 20. Students have the option to take courses face-to-face, or they also may use their computer to log-in via Adobe Connect to virtually join in classes. Students in the first cohort are all at the graduate level and encompass a wide range of backgrounds and are diverse in their locations across the state. Students in this cohort are expected to graduate in the spring of 2015.
