Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The COPD Foundation partnered with WebMD in 2009 to sponsor the Lung Health Check, an online tool
that collect information on COPD and the impact of COPD on patients. In 2010 and 2011 nearly 600,000
people, 177,000 of whom had a COPD diagnosis, completed the survey. The COPD Foundation was able
to negotiate with WebMD and obtain the raw data files for analysis. Among the over 177,000 subjects
with a COPD diagnosis, 1,619 (0.9%) reported that they have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency. This will be
an analysis comparing the Alpha-1 patients to the other COPD patients on a number of measures (lung
function, quality of life measures, ability to work, etc.). This analysis will give new insights into how
Alpha-1 patients are dealing with their disease and, unique in this database, be able to compare them to
the broader COPD patient population
