Description

The Ceuter on Drug and Alcohol Research will be responsible for conducting the treatment outcOIm study for the Kentucky Department of Corrections prison-based substance abuse treatment programs. The evaluatioD has 3 primary objectives: 1) To implement data collection using PDA's for DOC substance abuse treatment programs, which will describe the characteristics of incarcerated males and females inmates at treatment entry; 2) To examine trea.tment outcomes 12-months post-release from prison including relapse, recidivism, and comrounity subsf2nce abuse treatment utilization for a sample of substance abusing offenders; and 3) To report quarterly reports on data collection activities and descriptive baseline findings and yearly reports on the 12-month follow-up data. Self-reported baseline data will be collected by the treatment service providers at int3k:e using a PDA Participants will be a.sked to voluntarily consent to the electronic submission of their intake infonnation to CDAR . for data managemmt and data analyses. Baseline data. will be used to report client cbaract~tics and treatment utilization. Follow-up data W11l be collected 12-months after prison for a randomly selected group of participants who volunteer to participate in the follow-up study. Follow-up locating and tracking procedures win be initiated by CDAR im:mediately following release from prison. Periodic contact may be made with each participant during the: time between release and follow-up eligibility using proccdur~. Interviews will be conducted by CDAR staff face-to-face when possible, or by phone.
