Grants and Contracts Details
Description
This proposal has been prepared in response to a request from staff of the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for a proposal and cost estimate for conducting Phase I archaeological
survey of a tract affected by replacement of a bridge and new alignment of a section of roadway along
KY 1585 in Trigg County, Kentucky. The new alignment will traverse the valley of Sinking Fork Creek
and will intersect adjacent uplands on both north and south sides of the creek. The work that will be
conducted is intended to provide an inventory of the cultural resources within the project area and to
provide an evaluation of the research potential for the archaeological deposits encountered within the new
construction area. The total length of the new alignment is about 1525 feet (465 meters), and the width
varies up to about 135 feet (42 meters). Preliminary inspection of the area by KYTC staff located a
scatter of historic artifacts and a separate scatter of prehistoric artifacts. Additional sites are also likely
present, given the landforms that will be affected.
