Grants and Contracts Details
Description
This document has been prepared in response to a request from staff of the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for a proposal and cost estimate for conducting Phase II National
Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility assessment of portions of archaeological site 15TR1 in
Trigg County, Kentucky. Two small portions of this NRHP-eligible site will be impacted by proposed
new construction associated with the Canton to Cadiz Bypass along US 68/KY 80. Previous
archaeological survey identified two areas that contain intact prehistoric deposits (intact A horizon with
artifacts and intact pit features) that are potentially scientifically significant. The work that will be
conducted is intended to thoroughly evaluate and assess the scientific significance of archaeological
deposits contained within these construction areas. Site 15TR1 is a previously reported Mississippian age
mound center and associated village that contains distinct artifact concentrations and probable remnants
of features or domestic houses. The recent survey work also documented a Late Archaic to Early Archaic
component, a portion of which will be impacted by the proposed construction effort.
