    University of Kentucky Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Application Project Abstract University of Kentucky seeks Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funding in order to update the University’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. On March 10, 2016, UK received approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) of their Hazard Mitigation Plan. The current plan is approved for a period five years, until March 9, 2021. In an effort to develop a solid, workable Hazard Mitigation Plan that will guide the University over the next five years, the University will begin the planning process and implement the update over the coming years. The plan update is a lengthy process and UK is unique in that, in addition to the main campus located in Lexington, Kentucky, UK owns or operates properties and provides extension services in all 120 counties. UK is also home to UK Chandler Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, UK Good Samaritan Hospital, and Eastern State Hospital. The University of Kentucky Hazard Mitigation Plan Update will include development of a Planning Process, Risk Assessment, Mitigation Strategies, and a Plan Maintenance Process. Throughout each of these planning steps, an established Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee, approved by the University President, will be called upon to contribute and ensure the success of UK’s Hazard Mitigation Plan Update. The committee is comprised of University, public, and private stakeholders. UK Police Department and it’s Division of Crisis Management & Preparedness will administer the grant and carry out planning activities within the project scope.
