Grants and Contracts Details
Description
Kentucky continues to experience an elevated burden of motor vehicle crash (MVC) morbidity and
mortality, despite the very small proportion of patients who die after reaching a trauma hospital.
Strengthening the state’s trauma system is essential to reducing the burden of MVC trauma on the
state. The Kentucky Trauma Data Bank (KTDB) is mandated by state law to support improvements in
both the quality and quantity of data relevant to trauma care. The viability of the state’s trauma system
is threatened by ongoing developments in the very limited market of trauma data management
vendors. The state Trauma Advisory Committee is currently pursuing legislative options to generate a
robust and sustainable funding stream, but these initiatives are not guaranteed success. We therefore
submit a funding request for FFY 2025 to support the KTDB until our legislative work comes to fruition.
