The Scope of Work for the OVAR Geriatric Education Center will be to develop resources and provide training on bioterrorism and emergency preparedness in aging for DPH employees and older persons across the Commonwealth. A subcontract with the University of Louisville will facilitate resource development and training in the western half of the state. • Create a distance learning module and utilize it for a train-the-trainer distance learning workshop for KY Dept Pub Health Regional Bioterrorism Training Coordinators on Best Practice for the recruitment, training, and deployment of seniors on Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). • Test existing community databases with geographic maps and recommend data elements, formats, and collection procedures that will enable local community CERTs to identify the locations of isolated, disabled older persons. • Conduct up to eight (8) Bioterrorism/Emergency Preparedness and the Elderly Awareness (BTEPA) community workshops to update and educate elders and community responders on emergency plans and planning tools. • Evaluate the outcomes of up to eight (8) community workshops and the use of the model emergency planning tools by KDPH Regional Bioterrorism Coordinators, AAA, and other emergency community services providers by measuring their level of competency and progress in assisting the elderly and agencies in the community in preparing for bioterrorism and emergencies.
