Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The UK Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability (RCARS) is located in Breathitt County Kentucky. Applied vegetable
and fruit field research is conducted at this facility. In 2009, a RCARS Farmers Market was established so extension specialist at
RCARS could interact directly with producers on their production practices and educate consumers on food preparation techniques
and the health and nutritional benefits of eating locally grown fruits and vegetables. The new Farmers Market shelter will be a 40f x
80f pole building with metal roofing and interior ceiling and concrete floor. Lighting, fans, and power receptacles will be placed
throughout the building along with a water hose bib. The area around the building will be re]worked to provide driving access around
the entire building and a large parking area.
