Description

Kentucky Highlands Community Development Corporation, (KHCDC) a not for profit organization created to aid in the economic viability ofthe Appalachian region is interested in developing manufacturing capability within eastern and southeastern Kentucky for the production and construction of energy efficient housing. The goal is to ultimately reduce the electric load in the homes without increasing the manufacturing cost and ultimate cost to the consumer while creating jobs in a dormant manufacturing cluster within the region and sustaining jobs in Kentucky's building supply manufacturers through development of a value chain network. The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research (CAER) and the University of Kentucky College ofDesign (COD) will develop a concept for energy efficient manufactured homes and communities that will utilize existing manufacturing capacity within the Appalachian region and the state.
