Description

The Hazard Mitigation Plan will follow the standard crosswalk for developing a Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This includes developing a Planning Process, completing a Risk Assessment, developing Mitigation Strategies, and providing a Plan Maitenance Process. To further assist the above mentioned mentioned planning steps a Hazard Mitigation Committee will be established under the auspices of the Office of the President and composed of both University, public, and private stakeholders. The Hazard Mitigation Committee will be the main stakeholders involved in completing the Hazard Mitigation Plan and will assist with every step. Planning Process: Provide direction and oversight of the entire planning process, as well as soliciting public participation and comments and reviewing existing plans and materials. This includes utilizing the expertise and resources of committee members and their organizations, such as Public Relations, Capital Projects Management, etc. The committee will have the authority to determine what public comments are included in the final plan. Risk Assessment: Provide direction and oversight of the risk assessment process. This includes utilizing the expertise and resources of committee members and their organizations, such as Geographic Information Systems, engineers, etc. The committee will have the authority to determine what is included in the final assessment. Mitigation Strategy: Provide direction and oversight for developing short and long-term mitigation measures for the community. This includes utilizing the expertise and resources of committee members and their organizations, which may have experience with existing programs and techniques. The committee will have the authority to determine what strategy is included in the final plan, including the establishment of a community mission statement, goals, and objectives. Plan Maintenance: Develop a schedule for plan maintenance procedures and future updates. It is proposed that the committee will continue to meet annually to update the plan.
