Description
The Council on Postsecondary Education is planning an inaugural symposium, Higher E(D)quity
Symposium, to be held on the University of Kentucky campus November 13-14, 2019. The purpose of
the symposium is to bring together higher education administrators from across Kentucky to discuss and
address current issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion and their impact on student success.
Educators and administrators will have the opportunity to hear from leading experts in the field and be
given information on how to increase a sense of belonging for students on college campuses. The
overall goal is to positively impact student satisfaction, performance, and retention while preparing
students to interact with individuals different from themselves in order to be competitive in todayfs
global environment. Going forward, the symposium will be held annually, moving from one higher
education campus within Kentucky to the next. Each year the focus of the symposium will address
diversity, equity and inclusivity issues of the day. Attendees will include Presidents of the various
institutions as well as administrators, educators, and those involved in the day-to-day work of
promoting diversity, equity and inclusion on Kentucky's college campuses.
