University of Kentucky Pollution Prevention/Beam Institute: Pollution Prevention Craft Cooperatives (P2C2)

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The Institute proposes the establishment of Pollution Prevention Craft Cooperatives (P2C2). For this initiative, the Institute will implement a cooperative learning program that leverages peer interactions to enhance the educational attainment of the participating craft distilleries. Through the cooperative learning program and the KP3, craft distillers will be given the tools to make substantial reductions to their GHG emissions through strategic partnership. P2C2 will be both an education program and a tool to change the energy culture within these small businesses. Description of Amplifying Pollution Prevention Best Practices: The Institute will provide in-person training and peer-to-per mentoring through cooperative facility site-visits modeled after EPA’s Energy Star Treasure Hunts. The training events and cooperative visits will be located in the four regions of KY’s Craft Bourbon Trail: Northern, Central, Western and Bluegrass. Documenting Pollution Prevention Best Practices: A sustainability track will be held at the Institute’s Annual Industry Conference (March 2025) to share lessons learned from the P2C2. Cooperatives will provide team presentations on key outcomes from participating in the P2C2. Funds will be used to cover the conference organizer’s effort. The Institute will develop two NEA #1 cases studies, each in both video and pdf format.
