Update on Senior Hunger in America

In extending our work on senior hunger in the United States we propose to: (l) Update key analyses from The Causes, Consequences, and Future of Senior Hunger in America by • adding data from Current Population Survey for 2006 and 2007 • adding data from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 2003 through 2006 By using more years, we will have larger samples which will permit us to investigate subgroups which, in The Causes, Consequences, and Future of Senior Hunger in America, were too small in number (2) Address three additional topics in greater depth: • What is the incidence of hunger risk among seniors on a state-by-state basis? And, are the determinants of hunger risk common across states? • What is the incidence of hunger risk among seniors in rural America? And, are the determinants of hunger risk common between urban and rural areas of the nation? • What is the incidence of hunger risk among seniors in large metropolitan areas? And, do the determinants differ among these metropolitan areas?
