Description

Specific Aim 1: To demonstrate that AA female smokers who participate in the behavioral intervention with contingency management (BI + CM) will demonstrate higher rates of abstinence at end-of-treatment, 3- and 6-month post-treatment than participants in the behavioral intervention without CM (BI only). Specific Aim 2: To demonstrate that participants in the BI + CM group will exhibit greater reductions in nicotine dependence indices compared to participants in the BI only group at each outcome assessment time-point. Specific Aim 3: To show that participants in the BI + CM group will exhibit higher retention rates at end-of-treatment, 3- and 6-months post-treatment than participants in the BI only group at each outcome assessment time-point. Specific Aim 4: To confirm that participants in the BI + CM group will report more positive changes in theoretical indices of health behavior change pre to post intervention compared to participants in the BI only group at each outcome assessment time-point. Secondary Aim Specific Aim 5: To demonstrate that participants in both intervention arms will report high rates of intervention receptivity, comprehension, acceptance, satisfaction, and sociocultural relevance following each BI session.
