Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The UK CAER Applied Petrology Laboratory proposed to continue its support of the USGS coal research activities in the Appalachians and worldwide by providing vitrinite reflectance and maceral analyses on a contingency basis. Other petrographic analyses would be available, if needed. The CAER Applied Petrology Laboratory has 28 years of experience in conducting petrographic analyses of coal and other materials. The laboratory is equipped with five Leica research microscopes, two outfitted for vitrinite maxiumu reflectance. The three other microscopes are equipped with digital cameras and one of those also has a 35 mm film camera. In addition, a Leica microscope suited for metallography is available and an additional Leica Orthoplan is in the laboratory.
