Abstract

The features of the county and municipal timber harvesting ordinances are assessed. The tree ordinances are intended to help preserve trees in land development areas, while harvesting ordinances restrict forestry activities and include the regulation of timber harvesting, skid trail and haul road construction, or any other forestry operations on private property. Common provisions require management plans, harvest permits, and adherance to state water quality best management practices (BMP). The general environmental protection ordinance has been enacted to protect the general environment from land disturbing activities.
