Abstract

This paper presents a study of undermined streams, adjacent to longwall workings, which have been successfully mitigated after the panels were fully mined. The results of this case study are used to develop comparisons and guidelines for predicting the potential impacts of future mining development, under similar mining and geological conditions. The main parameters of the comparison include mining and geologic conditions, stream characteristics and potential ground movements calculated over existing and proposed longwall panels. Results indicate that future longwall mining panels can be successfully designed to ensure that surface impacts on overlying streams can be successfully controlled and mitigated using standardized and well proven measures.
