Abstract
Following the award-winning Advanced Energy Design Guide for Small office Buildings, ASHRAE and its partners have produced the Advanced Energy Design for Small Retail Buildings, the second in a series designed to achieve 30% savings towards the goal of net-zero energy use buildings. The goal of these guides is to provide recommendations for acheiving 30% energy savings over the minimum code requirements of ANSI/ ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1999. In particular, these guides are intended to meet the needs of various incentive programs for energy-efficient design, and form the intial basis for a suite of products targeted at 30%, 50% and 75% savings. Unlike codes and standards that prescribe minimum requirements for construction, these guides educate as well as provide practical recommendations for exceeding the minimums, thereby providing leadership in producing higher efficiency commercial buildings.
