Abstract

The use of edge computing techniques can be extremely beneficial to distributed applications when is it more efficient to process data in proximity to data sources than to transmit data to remote computational resources. The introduction of edge computing has created a number of communication challenges beyond what is typically experienced in the traditional client-server model. While the area of edge computing is in its infancy, few existing implementations address the wide-range of issues related to multi-protocol discovery, identity, messaging, security, and stateful operation of agents operating across heterogeneous computational and network architectures.
