Application of far-field approximation to accelerate the fast multipole method

Abstract

The fast far-field approximation approach is applied to accelerate the fast multipole method (FMM). The combined algorithm is faster than the individual performances of both the FAFFA and the FMM. The application of this algorithm to large practical problems is of the current interest.
