Abstract

The kinetics of arsenite oxidation in pure culture of the bacteria Alkaligenes faecalis were examined. The pure bacteria culture was capable of completely oxidizing As(III) in a defined medium with succinate but not acetate and valerate as the sole carbon source for Ar(III) oxidation. Simultaneous formation of As(V) was observed during the course of As(III) oxidation. The kinetics of As(III) oxidation followed by the Monod equation. The observed Monod half saturation coefficient agrees well with published values.
