Abstract
Depression affects a significant number of adolescents. Depressive disorders can have a substantial impact on adolescents’ educational, social, and occupational functioning. The warning signs, diagnostic criteria for major depressive disorder, the nature and extent of the difficulties associated with depressive disorders, potential causes and risks factors, and treatment will be presented. Support has been found for the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonalpsychotherapy, and psychotropic medication in the treatment of depression in adolescents. Recommendations and resources for caregivers are included.
