Biotechnology and crop improvement in agriculture

In the general sense, biotechnology is the application of technology to biological systems such as crop plants. Plant breeding can be considered a biotechnology, but when most people talk of crop biotechnology they are referring to crops genetically engineered using modern recombinant DNA techniques.
