BUILDING A GLOBALLY IMPACTFUL AND ADMIRED FOOTBALL ACADEMY: Lessons from Right To Dream

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

What is the “secret sauce” behind football’s most successful football academies? This question has been at the center of the global football industry for quite some time. While many football academies around the world prioritize commercial objectives, the Right To Dream Group takes a different approach. Based on an interview with Tom Vernon, founder and Group CEO of Right To Dream, the chapter details four principles that help explain Right To Dream’s unique model. These principles include (1) Purpose at the Core, (2) “Ghana First,” (3) Scouting: Partnering Scholarship with Athletic Talent, and (4) Strategic Partnerships. With a growing number of academies sprouting up in Africa and various other emerging sport economies, these values might inform leaders and organizations in their pursuit to create sustainable football academies that have global impact.
