N2 - Ceramic-based microelectrode arrays for electrochemical measures of neurochemicals in brain and spinal cord tissue are reviewed. Current fabrication procedures are explained, including discussions of various recording site layouts, insulating materials and recording strategies. Various coatings are employed to alter the sensitivity and the selectivity of the microelectrodes for the detection of certain neurochemicals. Several applications of these microelectrode arrays are discussed.
