Abstract

This study shows that the maximum possible value of the coefficient of performance (COP) of an endoreversible refrigerator should be used as the standard against which the COP of a real (irreversible) refrigerator should be measured, rather than the COP of a Carnot refrigerator. The characteristics of the COP of an endoreversible refrigerator are explored in a parametric study and an application of the new standard to a practical refrigerator is presented.
