title = "Comparison of bovine blood absorption coefficients to human curves",
abstract = "Specfic curves for the light extinction coefficients of hemoglobin have been generated using oxygenated and deoxygenated liwnan blood samples. These curves are often used with animal blood samples to measure oxygen saturation. This project aims to compare samples of oxygenated and deoxvgenated bovine blood to these standard hwnan curves. Creating a large surface area and exposing blood samples to air created oxygenated blood samples. The deoxygenated samples were created using sodium dithionite. Four pairs of samples were placed in a spectrometer to measure light transmission and this data was converted to absorption values. These values were then compared to the given curves. For 48% of the wavelengths between 650 and 1000 nm, the standard curve was within ± 2 standard deviations.",
