Abstract

In this study, developed is a detailed computational grid model of the prototype intratracheal pulmonary ventilation (ITPV) catheter and surrounding trachea section. Computational fluid dynamic simulations were run to determine the effectiveness of the prototype and to determine areas critical to maximum flow transfer with a minimum pressure disturbance within the trachea. The CFD results show the current ITPV catheters to be inefficient because of objectional vortexing.
