Abstract

The precipitation of metal sulfides has been studied under both MSMPR and batch precipitation conditions for various metals, pH conditions, and EDTA concentrations. Preliminary batch precipitation experiments on the ZnS system indicated a phase transformation from an initial amorphous kinetically favored precipitate to a more crystalline thermodynamically favored precipitate is likely as the precipitate ages; K//s//p was corrected 2 log cycles to obtain agreement between the calculated and residual Zn concentrations. Microscopic observations (employing Nimarski inferences) confirmed this hypothesis.
