Abstract

In this paper, a design and optimization mythology was presented to build a dust wind tunnel. To evaluate the dust effect on coal worker’s, wind tunnel testing will be conducted on Mobile Aerosol Lung Deposition Apparatus, and a dust injection will be used. A blowing type wind type was chosen and an initial sizing for the tunnel was made. Design optimization for the tunnel nozzle and diffuser was conducted on ANSYS fluent using response surface. The turbulence level and pressure drop was the mean driven factors in the design optimization. A multiphase simulation was used to evaluate the dust injection in the wind tunnel. The final wind tunnel was CAD modeled for the manufacturing purpose.
