This study, funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), was a pilot project for a community-based nutrition education program conducted among the Lumbee people to help reduce dietary risk for developing cancer. The study was carried out in conjunction with a Native American cervical cancer education project based at the Department of Family Medicine, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC (NCI Cooperative Agreement 1U01-CA52256).
